Interest for research grants keeps growing

BRUSSELS – 15 / 6 / 2010 UPDATE 17 / 6 / 2010 – At the deadline for applications to research grants for European journalistic research, 27 journalists or teams of journalists had applied. More than in any of the previous rounds.

There is no lack of ideas to do journalistic research into European subjects. But journalists need time to do the research and money to travel. These are the two main needs that appear in the 3^rd round of applications to Journalismfund.eu, where applications closed yesterday.

27 journalists or teams of journalists from Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western Europe applied for almost a quarter of a million euro. Journalismfund.eu has € 25.000 to distribute in this round.

Subjects range from social and legal questions to media and industry matters.

In this round an additional feature of European affairs was added, which attracted 11 or a little less than half of the applications.

Furthermore it became very clear, that a regular date for applications is important. In spite of a two months application period, several journalists did not have the time to prepare a thorough application and asked for the date of the next round.

The jury will work on the evaluation of this round and is expected to convene by skype next week. The applicants will be informed by e-mail.
