Event - Danish International Media Festival (Odense)

11/11
2012

The Danish International Media Festival is the biggest event for journalists in Europe. Since its start in 1996, the festival has grown steadily; the 2012 edition, on 11 and 12 November, will attract more than 1100 participants.

The media festival is an event which takes place every other year when the most interesting, current and deep-searching topics in the media and communication industry are presented. The media festival will be launched with about 70 different sessions to do with journalism, communication, photography and graphic work. At the event you will be able to hear major Danish and international stars, meet the musketeers of the sector and find unusual ideas which provide inspiration for the participants.

Danish International Media Festival is arranged by the Danish Union for Journalists, and the topics at the conference are directed at the broad mass of members of the Danish Union for Journalists. This means that the festival is just the place to uncover new knowledge about other corners of the media and communication industry, or to cultivate your own interests during two days of festive supplementary training. And it doesn’t matter whether the presentations or the presenters have other opinions or angles of approach than those usually represented in the Danish Union for Journalists.

Every time the festival is held, top politicians, editors-in-chief, theorists, practicians, artists, intellectuals and many others with something to say, are invited. This creates a melting pot of knowledge sharing and inspiration, giving you the opportunity to leave the media festival with a new zest for the every day work in media and communication.

The Media Festival wants to challenge

Everything is permitted at the Danish International Media Festival. Both presenters and participants come to be challenged, and it is, therefore, completely in the spirit of the media festival that various sessions will provoke and show new sides of issues which the participants may come into close contact with during their daily work in media and communication.
It is important for the participants at the media festival to receive input and inspiration from players outside of Denmark’s borders. This is why a number of international speakers are invited each time, who each in their own way contribute to value-creation for the participants and to diversity at the event.

From the start it has been the aim of the media festival to be a haven, where media people can get their breath back and have the opportunity to criticize and be criticized. In this way the media festival takes the lead in a media world which sometimes finds it difficult to criticize itself.

A feast for eyes and ears

Not only is there great diversity in the topics in the various sessions at the media festival. There is also great diversity in the various ways in which the topics are presented. Some sessions are arranged as panel debates, others as presentations from individual speakers, while in some places there are workshops and round table discussion between participants and speakers. All sessions and presenters are carefully chosen by a programme committee of different experts, and this is the mark of quality that you will find the best of the best at the Media Festival.

The Media Festival is a feast for the eyes. The organizers endeavour each time to find something for the eyes and ears. Therefore, the media festival also has exhibitions of photos, graphic work and posters, and there is also a cinema, where the newest documentaries and other relevant films and TV-programmes covering the media and communication sector can be seen.

On the evening of the first day the media festival traditionally invites you to a dance, where participants can meet old friends, fellow students and colleagues over a glass of draught beer, or network for new contacts for business or pleasure. The participants appreciate this, and therefore fun and satire are an essential spice at the Danish International Media Festival.

The media festival cooperates with a number of Danish and international partners. In this way the best knowledge is gathered at the Media Festival for the benefit of the participants.
