Funding

Where does the money come from?

The European Fund for Investigative Journalism, Journalismfund.eu, is currently in it's inception phase. We have received seed-funding and are working on further fundraising now. Our fundraising is conducted according to the following key-words: Full transparency, absolute independence and no editorial interference.

The parent organisation is the Belgian Pascal Decroos Fund, which is the current home and the starting point of Journalismfund.eu. The aim is to develop Journalismfund.eu into an independent entity.

The seed funding was obtained through a cooperation with the Network of European Foundations.

In September of 2008 the Norwegian Freedom of Expression Foundation Fritt Ord granted € 50.000 to run a pilot project of research grants, establish the necessary structure and conduct further fundraising.

In August 2009 the Media Program of the Open Society Institute granted us further €114.000. The money shall be used for two further rounds of research grants, further fundraising and to strengthen the structure of the organisation. Previously the Media Program has supported a Wobbing.eu plug-in to the European Conference for Investigative Journalism in Brussels in 2008.

In November 2009 the European Journalism Center in Maastricht has kindly offered to make possible a Wobbing.eu seminar in Utrecht in cooperation with Journalismfund.eu/Wobbing.eu and the Dutch-Flemish association for Investigative Journalism VVOJ.

Everybody can support Journalismfund.eu through the Belgian organisation  "I want to help", who are specialised in safe transfers.
