Ann Esswein is a freelance reporter based in Berlin working for Radio, television and print media outlets nationally and internationally.

She conducts investigations abroad usually lasting several months, on topics such as humanitarian aid, development cooperation, resource conflicts and migration. She is part of the Selbstlaut Kollektiv. In 2021, she and five other journalists published the Frontex Files for ZDZ Magazin Royale (ZDF). For this, she was nominated for the IJ4EU Impact Award, as well as for the German Radio Award and shortlisted for the European Press Prize for an international investigation on the Lampedusa shipwreck (ZEIT).
