BRUSSELS - An emerging data catalogue of datasets held by all 40 EU agencies will be presented during the Dataharvest+ Conference in Brussels.

The EUs Fundamental Rights Agency FRA in 2014 chairs the network of EU agencies, and on the top of the to-do-list it wishes to facilitate “greater use of wealth of agency intelligence by the public, stakeholders and the media”.

Friso Roscam-Abbing, spokesman of the Fundamental Rights Agency will present the data gathered in the catalogue, accompanied by spokespeople, researchers and techies from FRA and other agencies. Together they will present the data available so far and the emerging data catalogue, as well as the plans for the agencies’ data portal and an EU data portal.

After the presentation Friso Roscam-Abbing and the agency staffers will meet in a workshop with experienced data journalists and coders to gather information about the practical needs of data journalists: what kind of data, what formats, what about embargoed data and so forth. In this small and focused format also a first brainstorm may be possible including the insight available by the agency representatives.

From the data journalism side will be present at least Katrine Birkedal Frich, data newsroom editor at Danish broadcaster DR, Friedrich Lindenberg, freelance software developer and data journalist former Knight-Mozilla Fellow at Spiegel Online, Sebastian Mondial, data journalist at Die Zeit (formerly data editor at Deutsche Presse Agentur) and Marcos Garcia Rey, data journalist, University of Madrid (tbc).

The workshop is of course open to gather as much input from DH+ participants as possible.
