News - Four new teams got support

04/10
2011

BRUSSELS – Today the jury of Journalismfund.eu decided to grant working grants in the value of € 15.000 to four teams who plan to work on cross-border stories.

Applications arrived at Journalismfund from Ireland to Romania and from Latvia to Spain, several of the stories had clear European aspects but required a cross-border research in order to be documented. These are the countries of the applying team members: Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany (2), Hungary, Italy (3), Ireland, Latvia (2), Netherlands, Romania, Spain (2), United Kingdom.

Subjects to be covered concern social as well as environmental and migration questions – all of them have a clear cross-border and/or European aspect. The jury and staff of Journalismfund.eu oblige themselves to treat all applications with confidentiality, so more detailed information can not be given before publication.

Ten journalists are part of the teams that were supported in this round. The teams consist of two or three journalists each. This time the money was given to seven men and three women.

Seen over the past four application rounds team size and gender division look like this:

The largest single grant today was € 5.500, the average grant given today was € 3.703. The size of the grants depends largely on the costs that the teams foresee.

The next round of applications will be opening soon. The deadline is on January 10th 2012.
