BRUSSELS – The application round for Journalismfund.eu’s European cross-border grant applications was closed on Tuesday 15 September 2015. Journalists from all over Europe got together in teams and submitted a total of 23 applications.

Journalismfund.eu had two application deadlines on Tuesday 15 September 2015: one for the regular European cross-border grants and one for the new Freedom of Expression grants, organised in collaboration with the ECPMF. Read more about the Freedom of Expression grants here.

Record

The regular cross-border grant application round saw 23 teams of journalists apply. That brings the total amount of applications in 2015 to 65, more than any other year since our first calls in 2009, when 38 teams applied. That number decreased in the subsequent years (27 in 2010 and only 13 in 2011) but boomed to 57 in 2012, when more money was found for grants and a new website was launched. That number stayed roughly the same in 2013 (52 applications) and 2014 (55 applications), before increasing yet again this year.

Anonymous

The submitted applications are processed and checked for eligibility before going to the jury for assessment. Journalismfund.eu works with a peer-review jury of four people. In order to ensure absolute independence, their names are made public only after they step out of the jury. Membership is rotating, with each jury member staying on board for a maximum of four years.

Next call

There will be another application round for regular European cross-border grants closing on May 7th 2016. We are looking into the possibility of a round (for either regular or topic-related cross-border grants) for November or December 2015. If that call materialises, we will communicate about it through our regular channels: newsletter, website, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. All application deadlines are listed here.
