Born and raised in the Amazon region, freelance reporter Hyury Potter has over 20 years’ experience writing about environmental crime and corruption in Brazil.

He directed and produced the short documentaries Pilots of the Amazon and The Standing Forest Bá Kájmã Ãm. He is a member of the Pulitzer Center Rainforest Investigations Network and has also conducted investigations with grants from Journalismfund Europe, International Center for Journalists, and Investigative Journalism for Europe.

Potter has worked for newspapers in Brazil and Germany, and is the author of the Mined Amazon project, a real-time map published by InfoAmazonia which tracks illegal mining activities within Indigenous Lands and Protected Areas.

In 2025, he won both the Pulitzer Center’s Breakthrough Journalism Award and the Rey de España Journalism Award.
