SAARBRÜCKEN - Our managing editor, Brigitte Alfter, spoke about cross-border journalism and Journalismfund.eu at German Reporterfabrik’s seminar in Saarbrücken on March 7th. The meeting gathered 30-40 journalists and editors from the German-French border region and focused on journalism surmounting borders in relevant ways.

Lisa Huth of Saarländischer Rundfunk talked about her decades of reporting to a German audience about the triangle region: Germany-Luxembourg-France. She explained how different mind-sets on either side of the German-French border on topics such as energy severely influenced reporting – and she spiced up her hands-on talk with entertaining anecdotes from day-to-day reporting on how (not)

Brigitte Alfter, managing editor at Journalismfund.eu, spoke about cross-border collaborative journalism – be it local, European or global. She argued that by working in teams, different mind-sets could be embraced and national or cultural bias brought to the surface and discussed before publication.

The leader of Correctiv’s Reportfabrik, Thomas Schnedler, introduced a new model: combining online tutorials about various journalism methods with real life meetings such as the one in Saarbrücken. https://correctiv.org/reporterfabrik/
Director Uwe Conradt of the hosting Landesrundfunkanstalt Saarland, introduced the seminar.
