BANJA LUKA – Last week, authors of the 'Bosnian Birds, Italian Bullets' investigation held screenings of the documentary in Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by the discussion with the local community.
This cross-border investigation focused on quail hunters that come regularly from Italy to Bosnia and Herzegovina, which results in unregulated hunting and eventually wildlife crime growing out of control, according to the environmentalists.
The short film on quail hunting was screened in Livno on 24 February and in Banja Luka on 28 February.
In Livno, citizens, the police, hunting inspectors, the prosecutor’s office and other relevant government officials came to see it — and so did hunters and hunting associations. After the screening, a vivid discussion took place between the participants and the investigative journalists. The hunters' comments confirmed that the file reflected well the real situation on the ground. They also said that this was the first time that someone had publicly named people involved in poaching, and even offered their help if the journalists wanted to continue investigating this topic.
The event in Livno was organised by the Ornithological Society "Naše ptice" from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In Banja Luka, the short film premiered with a broad audience, including journalists, environmental organisations, and otherwise interested citizens. This second screening was organised by the eTrafika portal, and funded through donations from its readers.
