This online webinar is dedicated to the community of environmental journalists and will address the global context of the environmental ecosystem and the extent to which your story can have an impact, by identifying the different dynamics and actors that are accountable in terms of climate change. For this, the webinar will aim to look at two different approaches presented by Stéphane Horel and Mark Schapiro.
Stéphane Horel works as an investigative journalist for Le Monde. She specializes in corporate lobbying and harm, conflict of interest and scientific disinformation. Her in-depth work on the EU regulation of endocrine disrupting chemicals was short-listed for the Albert Londres Prize (2016) and awarded the Louise Weiss prize for European journalism (2017). With Stéphane Foucart, she co-authored the "Monsanto Papers" (Le Monde) obtaining the European Press Prize Investigative Reporting Award in 2018. She was active in reporting for the ICIJ's "Implant Files" investigation. Latest collaborative work on pesticides, Big Tobacco, the Koch brothers' networks and Big Alcohol. Trying to improve the world at the margin with cross-border investigation.
Mark Schapiro is an award-winning investigative journalist specializing in the environment, and the interplay between environmental health and political and economic power. His most recent book, Seeds of Resistance: The Fight to Save Our Food Supply, investigates the search for seeds capable of resilience to climate change, and the struggle with agri-chemical companies to control them. He was formerly Senior Correspondent at the Center for Investigative Reporting, and is currently a Lecturer at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. His work is also published in Harpers, Yale 360, Mother Jones, the Guardian, Inside Climate News, Los Angeles Times, and elsewhere.
This webinar is organised as part of Journalismfund.eu’s Earth Programme launched in 2021: two grant programmes for environmental journalism: one for cross-border teams of journalists and news outlets to investigate environmental affairs, and one for organisations to develop training and support services targeting environmental journalists. As part of the Earth Programme, Journalismfund.eu is launching a serie of trainings and webinars that will be accessible to the environmental journalism community.
