LONDON – A team from Imperial College, University of London developed what is thought to be the first prototype for a sensor that can detect asbestos in water. They were following up on a cross-border environmental journalistic investigation.

Doruk Toto Ozturk, Diego Muñoz Iglesias, Benedikt Huber and Emile Meunier at University of London have been researching ways of sensing asbestos in water. Their prototype monitor is thought to be the first one that can detect asbestos in water. It continuously checks asbestos concentrations, and also functions a tool for predicting pipe failures.

This project is following up on the findings regarding asbestos fibres in European drinking water by eight journalists and four media outlets from different countries.
