As the EU readies its Green Deal, the CLEW Energy Transition Journalism Day will look at the role journalism should play in the big stories around decarbonising Europe's economy.
Clean Energy Wire is organising a workshop in cooperation with the GIZ in the run-up to the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) 2020, where EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will hold the key note speech.
The climate and energy transition story is making headlines everywhere these days. From youth protests and industry upheaval, to wildfires and melting ice sheets, the story spans all beats, both domestic and international. In the European Union, the 'Green Deal' is taking centre stage in politics.
The Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) brings together policymakers and energy transition experts from across the globe – and provides a perfect backdrop for journalists to ask themselves: How can we best cover the transition to a climate-friendly economy?
The CLEW Energy Transition Journalism Day will look at the role journalism should play in the big stories of the energy transition, and the European Green Deal in particular. In roundtables with journalists, media experts and energy policy specialists we will discuss:
- Is journalism well equipped to understand, analyse and potentially moderate societal conflicts that will accompany the transformational shifts associated with the energy transition?
- As the negative effects of climate change unfold at an increasing pace: How can reporters take a clear, yet journalistic stance on the issues faced by societies around the globe – without slipping into the role of climate activists?
- And as Europe embarks on the European Green Deal – is this yet another technical story to be covered like other EU stories before?
