Local Spanish Media Against Climate Disinformation

Journalists from Aragon, the Valencian Community, Galicia, the Region of Murcia, Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Catalonia, Asturias and the Canary Islands participated in a series of workshops that provided them with knowledge and practical tools to counter climate disinformation narratives and hoaxes related to the environmental issues. The training sessions centred around practical learning to improve the media response to climate disinformation narratives affecting their communities.

Other than expanding participants' knowledge, the event marked the launch of a network of local media journalists to collaborate in this field. With the participation of media such as Huelva Televisión, Cadena SER Albacete, Canal Sur, Diario Información, Canal Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha Media and RTPA, among others, this network is established as an initiative aimed at supporting local journalists in Spain in its work against climate misinformation and thus facilitate citizens' access to reliable information backed by solid evidence.

I have also loved the diversity of the team that has been called to this training. It has been great, — said one of the workshop participants. Another one added: "I loved the course. I think it provided a lot of content in a short time. I was left wanting more."

With the participants, Maldita is launching a network of local Spanish media against climate disinformation cultivating a community of knowledge sharing between members and Maldita.es to continue strengthening local investigative journalism into European environmental issues as a bulwark against widespread disinformation.
