BRUSSELS - The beginning of the year 2012 saw a new round of research grant applications. In total, sixteen applications were sent in, slightly up from thirteen in September 2011. Of those sixteen, five were awarded a grant.

The five teams consist of an average of three journalists per team, which means that in this round, Journalismfund.eu has supported fifteen European journalists, nine women and six men. The five grants awarded amounted to a total worth of 25.000 euros.

Journalismfund.eu promotes quality journalism in Europe by giving journalists the chance to carry out journalistic research projects. The projects should be such that they cannot essentially be realised in this format within the remit of regular journalism. Furthermore, they should entail cross-border research, networking between colleagues, established and innovative investigative methods and at the same time be original, innovative and intensive.

As a new option this call not only offers support for cross-border stories but also for European affairs stories.
