Journalismfund Europe announces the new grant programme Sustainable Media for Democracy. This media pluralism fund will inject at least €1.625.000 of financial support to local and regional outlets, community media, investigative journalism, and public interest news organizations who are struggling in news desert areas and places where media pluralism is strained.

Journalismfund Europe, International Media Support (IMS) and Reporters Without Borders (RSF) are launching Sustainable Media for Democracy (SM4D). This 24-month programme will provide direct funding and tailored support to around 46 local, regional, community and investigative media outlets across Europe. Co-funded by the European Union through Creative Europe and by Limelight Foundation, SM4D starts on 1 November 2026. Two calls for proposals will open in December 2026.

“Co-funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.”
