RIGA - The Environmental Journalism School is a five-month online training and mentoring programme designed for Russian-speaking journalists in exile.

The initiative supports reporters who continue covering Europe’s environmental and climate challenges but lack access to structured education, newsrooms, and editorial support.

The programme combines four expert-led modules:

  • Climate Change & Natural Disasters (Konstantin Ranks)
  • Environmental & Climate Journalism (Angelina Davydova)
  • Investigative Journalism & Science (Dr. Andrey Zayakin)
  • Eco-Journalism for Beginners (Ekaterina Doilnitsyna)

Participants develop scientific literacy, data and OSINT skills, writing and editing techniques, and cross-border reporting practices. Each module includes editorial feedback and practical assignments, culminating in a publishing sprint with partner media.

Timeline 2026

  • January: onboarding and recruitment
  • February–March: climate and environmental journalism modules
  • March–April: investigative journalism module
  • May: eco-journalism module and publishing sprint
  • June–July: final editing, evaluation and reporting

Delivered fully online, the programme ensures accessibility for journalists dispersed across Europe and neighbouring regions. Partner outlets The Insider and Novaya Gazeta Europe will review completed investigations and publish selected works that meet editorial standards.
