Arne is a journalist with a focus on slow-paced investigative journalism and critical policy analysis.

He is currently delving into cottage industry, housing policy, and the shadowy tentacles of the real estate market. He is also interested in education, industry lobbying power, and international politics. For Arne, in-depth journalism means connecting the current with the structural. Because the most important stories are never about something that is hot topic today, but over tomorrow.

Arne did internships at Apache and VRT NWS, and has already written pieces for Apache, MO* Magazine, and Knack. He lost his journalistic shyness at the Leuven student magazine Veto while studying Economics and Language and Literature.

Does Appeltans trial bring an end to 20 years of slumming?

LEUVEN - In the project "Does the Appeltans process bring an end to more than 20 years of slum landlords?" Arne Sonck investigated the power of slum landlords in Leuven. He brings to light how the Leuven landlord Appeltans was able to build a real estate empire by coloring outside the lines, and why the Leuven administration was able to watch this alone for a long time.
