Bas Van Hoeck is a Belgian documentary filmmaker.

In 2017, he completed his Master’s degree in Social Work at the VUB, after which his interest in both the Brussels area and social issues grew.

In 2018, as part of the Master's programme, he co-authored the book ‘Terpocene: young newcomers in the city’ with six fellow students. This book provides insight into the future prospects, attitudes towards citizenship and social networks of underage newcomers in Belgium, and offers a contextual overview of these young people’s needs and requirements, as well as their strengths and dreams. The aim was to capture the versatility and diversity inherent in this group. With a view to putting this knowledge into practice, the book was distributed to a number of stakeholders, including Fedasil and Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen.

His desire to tell stories and his love of film subsequently led Bas to study Audiovisual Arts at RITCS. In 2021, he graduated from the Master’s programme in Audiovisual Arts, specialising in ‘Documentary Direction’, with the film Paradisiac.
