Belén López Garrido is Editorial Manager at the European Broadcasting Union, Europe’s largest association of public service media.

She is a graduate of Columbia University’s School of Journalism ad has worked as a reporter and editor in the United States and Europe for over 25 years. Originally from Galicia, in Spain, she started her career as reporter in Madrid, later becoming a US correspondent and producer. She is now based in Geneva, Switzerland, where she heads the EBU Investigative Journalism Network and coordinates the cross-border investigations produced by the group. Formed by dozens of investigative reporters and editors from public service newsrooms across Europe, the consortium has produced several, cross-border investigations such as Russia’s actions in occupied Ukraine (including the forcible transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia), the financial ownership structures of football teams in Europe, and the increase in hybrid attacks on the continent. More recently, the consortium has investigated the implications for public health of the overselling of sperm donations in Europe. These investigations have been republished by numerous news organisations across Europe and beyond, and have received several nominations for international journalism awards.

Belén also works in innovation and AI-related projects in the News Strategy department of the EBU, and is fluent in four languages.
