Catarina Carvalho is a journalist and media specialist. She is the founder and editor of Mensagem de Lisboa, a local digital media start-up in Lisbon.

Championing for community journalism and working with all the communities in the city, especially the disenfranchised communities, Mensagem has been a pioneer in telling the untold stories of the city.

Previously Catarina had a career of leadership roles in the more traditional media in Portugal . namely leading the digital transition in one of the older newspapers, Diário de Notícias. She is a member of the board of the World Editors Forum (Wan-Ifra) and was responsible for the branch of the Online News Association in Portugal. She teaches journalism, writes and leads conferences about it and was a visiting fellow at the Reuters Institute in Oxford.
