Eoghan Gilmartin

Eoghan Gilmartin is an Irish journalist based in Madrid whose work has appeared in Jacobin Magazine, The Guardian, Byline Times, El Diario and the Irish Independent.

As well as covering Spanish politics, he has written about migration, Western Sahara, historical memory and labour issues. In 2024, he won the Special Award at the European Press Prize and the Impact Award for Investigative Journalism for his work on the Migrant Graves Project.

BRUSSELS - This investigation revealed that farm owners who intimidate and exploit migrant workers are receiving millions in agricultural subsidies. Nearly thirty CAP payments were traced to farms that had breached workers’ rights, were under criminal investigation or had already been convicted of labour-related offences.
