Gioia Shah is an independent multimedia journalist based in Kenya.

Her work has appeared in the Guardian, the Financial Times, Elle US and der Spiegel amongst others. Prior to this she was East Africa correspondent for the German Press Agency (dpa) and has reported from Jordan, Tunisia, the UK, Germany and Turkey.

She was also the chairperson of the International Press Association of East Africa (IPAEA) which represents over 300 journalists in the region. Gioia grew up in Germany, South Africa and the UK.
