Giorgio Michalopoulos is an Italian freelance investigative journalist who is based in Brazil. He specialises in environmental investigations and exposing the greenwashing of polluting companies, banks, and asset managers.
His cross-border investigations have been published in Voxeurop, The Guardian, Domani, Il Fatto Quotidiano, Mediapart, Expresso and Nacional, among other European newspapers. His first investigation, 'How "green" investments are financing big carbon', won the 2024 Covering Climate Now journalism award.
Giorgio also won the CEI Seemo Award for Young Professional Journalists. He is currently studying for a PhD at the Centre for Development and Regional Planning (Cedeplar) at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil.
