Iulia Hau is a freelance journalist based in Bucharest.
Iulia explores migration, identity and social integration in Europe and Latin America in her work. She began her reporting career in Cartagena, Colombia, living among a group of Venezuelan street dancers and documenting their migration stories, which were later published in Vice Romania and Relatto.
Since then, she has covered the Ukrainian refugee crisis in Romania, the lives of migrant communities across the country, and the challenges faced by migrants in Europe, from Sri Lanka to Nigeria.
Her work has appeared in Al Jazeera, Global Voices, The Republic (Nigeria), Caracas Chronicles and leading Romanian outlets, including Radio Romania International, HotNews, Scena9 and Vice Romania.
She holds a Master's degree in Translation and wrote her thesis on the specialised argot used in illegal migration and drug trafficking along the Mexico–United States border. In her work, she combines linguistic analysis with field reporting and anthropological enquiry to explore how human mobility can reshape identity, belonging and resilience.
