James Wakibia is a Kenyan freelance photojournalist who focuses on environmental and social issues.
He has contributed powerful visual stories to international outlets such as CNN, The Washington Post, The Guardian, El País, and DW.
His photography has been recognised in major United Nations environmental photo contests. In 2022, his image 'Shining Danger' was a finalist in the Minamata Convention's 'Make Mercury History' Photo Contest, which highlights the dangers of mercury exposure and its impact on health and the environment. In 2020, his photo 'Two Boys at the River' was named a finalist in the Plastic Waste Partnership Photography Contest under the Basel Convention and was featured in the 'Plastic is Forever' exhibition held in Geneva in July 2021.
James had studied Communication and Media at Egerton University.
