Romy van Baarsen (°1994) is a Dutch journalist, writer and photographer specialising in migration, human rights and border policy at Europe's external borders.

She publishes in De Groene Amsterdammer, Trouw, Het Parool and The New Humanitarian, among others, and contributed to the BBC documentary “Dead Calm: Killing in the Med”.

In 2025–2026, she will be Journalist in Residence at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS), where she will be working on a book about the normalisation of border violence in Europe.
