He left Reuters at the end of 2019 after an eight-year stint as chief correspondent in Geneva, where he reported on international diplomacy, wars, humanitarian crises and trade, as well as arms negotiations, human rights, disease outbreaks, public health, Brexit, economics and more. Reporting assignments have taken him to South Africa, Mongolia, Australia and elsewhere. His reporting has been widely cited and republished in the international media. Since leaving Reuters he has published several opinion pieces about populism and the coronavirus pandemic on Medium.com.
