Viorica Zaharia is a journalist, the President of the Press Council of the Republic of Moldova, a self-regulatory body of media.

She is currently working as a journalist for Moldovacurata.md media outlet and also as an expert in media literacy and countering disinformation projects for the Association of Independent Press. She has a master degree in Journalism and Communication Sciences. Among the short term courses, she participated, in 2021, at the Distinguished Humphrey Fellowship Program at University of Washington, for three weeks, on media and disinformation.

In the past, she taught investigative journalism at Moldova State University and worked as a media consultant for the development of two manuals for the optional media literacy course for secondary and high school students from Moldova. She also work for 8 years for local office of Radio Free Europe, where she received many national awards for promoting Human Rights, and as an editor for TV channel PRO TV.
