Novaya Gazeta Europe is an independent media outlet launched in Latvia by the former team of Novaya Gazeta after its Moscow office was shut down under pressure from Russian authorities.
For decades, Novaya Gazeta was one of Russia’s most respected investigative newsrooms, known for exposing state abuses and systemic corruption. In 2021, its editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov received the Nobel Peace Prize for defending freedom of expression.
Our mission is to report without censorship on the war in Ukraine, Russian repression, international politics, and social issues for Russian- and English-speaking audiences. We aim to provide fact-based, verified coverage that counters propaganda and disinformation, particularly within authoritarian regimes.
