Tempo started as a news magazine in March 1971 and then became the most well known investigative and independent news publisher in Indonesia.

It was banned several times during the dictatorship regime of Soeharto because of its critical reporting on corruption and political scandals.

In June 1994, the government banned Tempo again and this time, Tempo decided to publish its online version and became the first online news publisher in Indonesia. Now, it has 13 million monthly active users and around 40 thousand paid subscribers.

It publishes in Bahasa Indonesia and English, and has millions of followers on social media.
