ŁÓDZ - The project is aimed at residents of rural and urban-rural communes of the Radomsko district (Łódź province), who, for technological and distribution reasons, are deprived of access to information about their local community.
Thanks to the prepared technology, we will launch the Municipal Hub "News for Municipalities". We will create municipal information pages (subpages) for all municipalities of the county on the radomszczanska.pl portal. We will provide targeted sub-local information to residents of municipalities excluded from information. We will create municipal profiles on FB connected to the portal, which will distribute content and engage residents. We will expand the advertising market.
Today, residents of 11 rural municipalities of the county and the cities of Przedbórz (3 thousand residents) and Kamieńsk (2.8 thousand) are deprived of independent sub-local information about their municipalities. They are doomed to official information and unverified information from Facebook. They do not have access to verified current information. They have no knowledge, they cannot control the authorities.
In the past, residents used local weeklies, but today most of them have been liquidated. They cannot buy our newspaper because the distributors have liquidated the points of sale. This limited reach forced - for economic reasons - a reduction in the pool of municipal information on our portal.
The municipal information pages on the radomszczanska.pl portal, connected to the FB profiles, will function as independent sources of information about municipal events and residents. The target group are residents of the following municipalities: Kamieńsk, Przedbórz, Dobryszyce, Gidle, Gomunice, Kobiele Wielkie, Kodrąb, Lgota Wielka, Ładzice, Masłowice, Wielgomłyny and Żytno (we will skip one of them, as it serves as a "city bedroom").
Goals (expected) of the project
The project aims to introduce new independent sources of information into the public sphere. This will increase the diversity of information and equalize the opportunities in accessing knowledge about the real problems of residents excluded from information. The lack of independent sources of information means that the authorities are currently in a privileged position. This makes it difficult for residents to make rational voting decisions and blocks the influence on the actions of the authorities. Access to sub-local information will increase the involvement of residents in the public sphere. It will give them tools to verify the actions of the authorities. It will have a positive impact on the public debate, enabling them to speak out and express their opinions. We want to provide residents of individual communes with verified sub-local information about their communities. The word "verified" is key. Residents of communes today rely on knowledge obtained from official websites. Information published there distorts reality because it emphasizes the positives and ignores difficult issues (challenges, problems). Residents also use information published on FB, which they cannot confirm in any way. In order not to limit the reach of the content (one commune is inhabited by several thousand residents), we assume that it will be included in the free pool. Only exceptional municipal content that may be more attractive to a wider audience will be published in a subscription model.
Thanks to our project, social awareness of matters concerning the municipality will increase. Residents will be better informed. We assume that greater transparency will improve the standards of municipal management.
