CFP: Algorithmic accountability reporting

Algorithms make a lot of invisible decisions in our daily lives. Help us find the most interesting recent cases of algorithm accountability in Europe!

European journalists know the power of the algorithms and are keen to know more and demand transparency in these automated decision-making systems. It was obvious at last year’s EIJC & Dataharvest conference, where keynote, workshops and roundtables in the theme were very popular.

Call for participation from Algorithm Watch: 

Do you have a great story to share of how you investigated an automated decision making (ADM) system? Are you in the middle of doing research on an ADM and can tell us a little about how it's going? Do  you have a great idea for probing an ADM system but can't find collaborators to do it with? We'd love to hear your story!

This year, EIJC/DataHarvest will have a dedicated algorithmic accountability reporting track. For this track, we're looking for examples of stories and ongoing research. Yours doesn't have to be the next Machine Bias sensation (although we wouldn't mind, of course) - in fact, it could even be a failure, as long as it's an instructive one.

We're interested to hear about all kinds of journalistic investigation into automated systems: be it credit scoring, border control, media curation, health technologies or recruitment systems - or something we ourselves have never even thought of. A limited number of travel grants can be made available upon application.
