ONLINE / OLTENIA REGION / HUNEDOARA / PRAHOVA - This is a pioneering investigative journalism project that marks a premiere in the Romanian media landscape: the first coordinated cross-regional collaboration among hyperlocal newsrooms for anti-corruption investigations in the EU Just Transition.

Addressing the critical need for transparency in EU Just Transition funds, the project unites distinct outlets from Romania’s most industrial and coal-dependent counties: Craiova Știri (Dolj), Gazeta de Dimineață (Hunedoara), Știri Actuale (Prahova), alongside Sudvest and Presa fără stăpâni (Gorj).

Moving beyond the traditional, fragmented local media model, this initiative builds a joint watchdog network. The project will empower teams of three journalists from each participating newsroom through specialized training in OSINT and data journalism. By establishing a collaborative "Green Tips Hub," these teams will produce in-depth investigations into how Green Deal funds are spent, preventing corruption and misuse. This cross-regional approach ensures that environmental accountability is treated systemically, amplifying the impact of local reporting to a European level.
