Uyuni is a backward region in the South of Bolivia. Bult the salt lake of Uyuni is rich with lithium, the commodity for the production of batteries, soon also for batteries for electrical vehicles. For this raw material a game of chess is being played between some multinational companies, the people of Uyuni and Bolivia's government.

Despite the more than appealing proposals of the multinationals, the government sticks to its nationalist policy. A first report from Greet Brauwers and Raf Custers in Bolivia. Their final report is to follow.

Multimedia journalist, Greet Brauwers (°1963), graduated from the KASK film school in Ghent (Belgium) and freelanced for TV (VRT, tvbrussel) and DeWereldMorgen.be.
She's made several documentary films a.o. 'Bruxelles-Kinshasa', 'Do You Copy Me?', 'Beulen in Baraka' and 'Trouwen over de grens'.
