JELGAVA - As part of the project, it is planned to improve and develop the information platform by expanding information dissemination channels (social networks). To achieve this goal, the aim is to create a new technical platform for both portals, connecting them to social networks, thereby making them accessible to a wider audience. 

The project also aims to attract business consultants who will help develop long-term development plans, including finding potential financial sources that can meet the demands of independent journalism. independent and objective. There are also plans to train staff on the latest technological capabilities and potentially increase the number of people involved in content creation.

Target group and goals of the project

The main beneficiaries of this project will be society as a whole, as it will benefit from expanded access to objective and timely information. It is important to note that by speaking before the Russian-speaking public, European values will be promoted, thereby influencing public opinion on many current issues, such as the situation in Ukraine. Since young people will also participate in the project, this target group will receive special help with career choices. All of these efforts will contribute to community engagement and growth, improved reader strategies, and increased knowledge.

About the media outlet

Founded in 2005 and acquired by SIA JK Media Group in 2017,  news portals Jelgavniekiem.lv and Novaja.lv have consolidated their position as important news sources in Zemgale. Their reach extends beyond the boundaries of Jelgava, Latvia's fourth largest city, and covers the surrounding area within a  radius of about 50 km.

Jelgavniekiem.lv is dedicated to distributing news in Latvian, targeting the local population, while Novaja.lv serves the Russian-speaking community, providing  content in Russian.

Additionally, these portals recognize the importance of training the next generation of journalists. They are committed to attracting and mentoring young people aspiring to  careers in journalism, providing them with unique opportunities to gain real-world experience and contribute to the field.
