De wandelende sculpturen van Kinshasa

KINSHASA - Marlies Geyskens travels to Kinshasa, a city of millions that has been struggling with a growing mountain of rubbish in recent years. There, she follows two local artists who make costumes from recycled materials.

Through their creations, they not only highlight the issue of waste, but also tell powerful, personal stories. Each costume symbolises a social issue, such as the ongoing war in eastern Congo and the increased risk of sexual violence in neighbourhoods without electricity.

Wearing their costumes, the artists take to the streets of Kinshasa: they confront passers-by with urgent issues whilst giving a voice to those who are rarely heard in the city.
