Young people in Perpignan inhabit a territory characterised by a lack of local news that speaks to their realities. Rarely represented in media narratives, they tend to disengage from traditional media outlets that neither reflect their experiences nor provide them with a platform. In response, the project will organise writing workshops specifically for young people from these underrepresented neighbourhoods.
Led by a team of professional journalists, the workshops will enable participants to tell their own stories, report on events in their environment, and publish their work on Made in Perpignan.
Made in Perpignan has been owned and operated by its journalists since 2016. Committed to delivering inclusive local journalism, the outlet provides more than 4,000 freely accessible articles. Its editorial team investigates, verifies, and reports daily on the social, economic, and environmental issues affecting the Pyrénées-Orientales.
The publication is operated by the company SARL Made in Perpignan, registered under RCS number 81960732600017 with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Perpignan on 7 April 2016. It has been officially recognised as an online press service, in accordance with Article 1 of Law No. 86-187 of 1 August 1986.
Goals (Expected) of the Project
- Support 12 to 18 young people in producing journalistic content to be published on Made in Perpignan and aimed at a local audience;
- Strengthen participants’ writing skills, critical thinking, and civic engagement, particularly in the lead-up to the 2026 local elections;
- Equip them with journalistic skills that enable them to create content in their own voice and style for use on social media platforms;
- Help them emerge as informed young citizens capable of raising awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing their communities, while engaging local residents, decision-makers, and the wider public.
