COBQUECURA - 4.3 babies are born every second in the world. For a woman, childbirth is one of the most profound physical and emotional events in her life. Yet childbirth, like the female body in general, remains undervalued and under-researched.

"As long as the baby is healthy," new mothers are often told. This leaves little room for the mother's experience, says author Millie Hill, who argues in Giving Birth Like A Feminist for women to have more control over their birth.

How do you put the interests of both woman and child first? Sanne De Wilde and Zjos Vlaminck investigated the culture of childbirth in Belgium, Chile and the Netherlands.
