A journalist by profession, he founded O MIRANTE in 1987 and has led it ever since, first as editorial director and now as managing director. It is a regional newspaper and a leader in Portugal's local press.
He has been writing and editing poetry for more than three decades and is the author of more than 25 titles, some of them published collectively.
His life motto and worldview can be summed up in a poem by António Machado: "Traveller, there is no path, the path is made by walking"; or in a phrase by Blaise Pascal: "We are so presumptuous that we would like to be known throughout the world... And so vain that the esteem of five or six people around us delights and satisfies us."
