Johannes De Bruycker is a Belgian journalist, documentary photographer, educator and communications specialist.
He is the founder of The Caravan's Journal, an independent platform for journalism and storytelling.
For over a decade, his work has explored the intersection of people, power and the environment, with a particular focus on climate change, biodiversity, conflict and social justice. Reporting from five continents, his work examines how global challenges are experienced and contested at the local level. His reporting and visual work have appeared in outlets including De Standaard, MO*, De Groene Amsterdammer, VRT, Al Jazeera English and De Tijd.
Johannes has collaborated with National Geographic photographer Dos Winkel and photo agency NOOR, and contributed to the Oscar-nominated documentary Soundtrack to a Coup d'État. His investigative and cross-border reporting has been supported by organisations including Journalismfund Europe.
He is the recipient of the Memento Award for reporting on neglected diseases and the United Nations PLURAL+ Award. He is also a Robert Bosch Stiftung Fellow and Hostwriter Ambassador, fostering international collaboration and cross-border journalism.
Alongside his journalistic practice, Johannes has lectured in journalism, communication and project management in higher education, facilitated international leadership and public engagement programmes for the Asia-Europe Foundation, and led storytelling and communications initiatives for NGOs, academic institutions and international organisations.
Through his work, Johannes seeks to illuminate the connections between ecology, politics and culture, and how storytelling can deepen our understanding of an increasingly interconnected world.
