Nikos Morfonios is a co-founder of the Athens-based Mediterranean Institute for Investigative Reporting.

Nikos established MIIR in 2019 with the aim of enhancing the genre of journalism that holds those in power accountable and defends the public good.

With 22 years of experience reporting for the Greek national newspaper “AVGI”, he specialises in covering transport and digital technology. He has extensively covered issues pertaining to migration, human rights, nationalism and racism.

In 2017, he attended the Summer Investigative Reporting Course (SIRC) at Columbia Journalism School in New York, as a recipient of a Stavros Niarchos Foundation Fellowship. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Media from the University of Athens.
