Renate van der Zee is a journalist, and writes for magazines and newspapers such as Opzij, Libelle and NRC Handelsblad. Her book Eerwraak in Nederland gained her recognition as a champion of female honour crime victims’ rights. She is still actively involved in helping to solve the problems facing immigrant women in the Netherlands. In 2007 and 2008, for instance, she wrote several articles for NRC Handelsblad about the honour killing of Zeynep Boral, a girl of Turkish origin.
In 2008 Renate van der Zee was nominated for the European Journalism Award for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for her article about female genital mutilation in Somalia.
