FACTA is an independent Italian non-profit media organisation that applies the scientific method to investigative and data journalism.
Inspired by the principles of open science, FACTA combines open-access scientific research, data, and evidence with investigative reporting. It works closely with researchers, citizen scientists, and science-informed civil society organisations to produce rigorous, evidence-based journalism. Until the end of 2023, FACTA operated as a spin-off of the Italian science communication agency formicablu before becoming an independent non-profit social enterprise.
Founded by four journalists, FACTA focuses on environmental investigations across the Mediterranean region. It publishes in both Italian and English, reaching researchers, NGOs, activists, educators, policymakers, and local communities affected by the environmental issues it investigates.
FACTA's recent cross-border investigations have explored wetlands, groundwater, PFAS contamination, climate neutrality, and agriculture. It also publishes Paludi, a weekly newsletter dedicated to wetlands and environmental journalism.
FACTA is a member of the Reference Media Circle, a self-organised network of independent European media organisations, and of EDJNet, the European Data Journalism Network.
