Mérce is a news, analysis and opinion portal and a vital institution of Hungarian egalitarian and critical thought. It is also a crucial gap filler in the Hungarian media landscape.

We are a venue for unions, civic leaders, environmentalists, grassroots organisations and academics. We have a dedicated team of 20 journalists and editors who write exceptional opinion pieces, reports and news stories. They also mentor the next generation of independent journalists.

Our goal is to support people who are oppressed, exploited or discriminated against. We provide a platform for everyone who fights against systemic injustice.

We are almost entirely funded by donations from small donors. We were one of the first Hungarian media outlets to adopt this financing model, and have successfully provided critical and socially meaningful news coverage as an online portal since 2017.

BUDAPEST - The project aims to develop a short video format to help us start producing our own video content again after several years. Through video, we hope to expand our audience and reach groups who may not usually engage with our content. In the long run, we hope to reach more people, including a different demographic of viewers to our current readers, who may eventually become our supporters.
