BRUSSELS – Journalismfund Europe makes public the names of the esteemed jurors who were for a long time part of the jury for Professional Development for Environmental Journalism grant programme.

For each of Journalismfund Europe’s different grant programmes it works with a separate, independent jury. All of the juries consist of experienced investigative journalism experts who remain anonymous while undertaking this duty.

As Journalismfund values and promotes transparency in the grant-making processes, we make the names public once the experts leave the jury. In that spirit, today we are sharing the names of three former jury members: Catherine Mackie, Anders Alexanderson and Milorad Ivanović.

All three of them were members of the jury which worked on selecting best training proposals to increase capacity of environmental journalism in Europe.

Catherine and Anders served in that capacity since the Professional Development for Environmental Journalism grant programme was launched in 2021: they were jury members from December 2021 until March 2025, and assessed 264 project proposals during this time. They granted in total more than €987,504 to 264 projects from 21 countries.

Milorad Ivanovic formed part of this jury between May 2024 and March 2025, participating in 3 rounds of assessment.

The interest and need for investigative reporting on environmental issues has increased dramatically in recent years, driven, among other things, by climate change. I hope there will be more projects using innovative tools, new journalistic methods and new means and forms of publishing. - Anders Alexanderson

We extend our gratitude to Catherine, Anders and Milorad for their invaluable contributions to our grant programme. Their expertise and dedication have been instrumental in advancing environmental journalism

The Professional Development for Environmental Journalism grant programme supports organisations working to strengthen environmental journalism in Europe. It funds training, networking, and capacity-building initiatives that help journalists cover climate and environmental issues with greater depth and impact. It is a part of a larger Earth Investigations initiative, supported by Arcadia fund.

The younger generation seeks information on new platforms, and we need to find innovative ways to distribute relevant findings.  But even more important, I strongly want to emphasize the need to promote and support more cross-border projects. - Anders Alexanderson
