SKOPJE - Journalists Suzana Miceva and Aleksandar Metodijev have received the second prize awarded by the Council of Media Ethics of Macedonia for their cross-border investigation into illegal waste trafficking in the Balkans.

The award was presented ahead of World Press Freedom Day as part of the council’s annual recognition of outstanding journalism on environmental issues and climate disinformation.

The awarded investigation, published as the documentary “The Illegal Paths of Waste” alongside a series of online reports, examined illegal waste imports, environmental crime networks and institutional failures linked to waste management in North Macedonia and the wider region. The reporting documented illegal dumping sites, waste burning and alleged links between waste trafficking and organized crime.

The investigation was supported by Journalismfund Europe's Environmental Investigative Journalism grant programme and involved collaboration with journalists from North Macedonia, Serbia and Bulgaria
