
BRUSSELS - 37 journalists from 19 countries sent applications in the January 2012 round of applications at Journalismfund.eu. The 16 applications in sum need €160,423 for their research, an average of €10,000 per project.
The latest round of applications is the 5th round in the history of Journalismfund.eu. Since the first round in 2009 journalists from all over Europe have submitted 95 projects, 17 of which have received funding.
In the January 2012 round 37 journalists from 19 countries submitted their applications. In sum they requested € 160.423 for their research, an average of €10.000 per project.
Subjects in this round include several stories on the use of EU money, on trafficking of human beings, human organs and drugs, on minorities and social networks, on health treatments and on food trade.
Applicants from all over Europe joined the idea. They come from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain and the United Kingdom. Further a few countries from outside the EU are mentioned – either because journalists live there or wish to cover those countries: Canada, China, Israel, Kosovo and USA.
The jury will be analysing the material and the applicants will be informed about the outcome at the end of next week.
