Portal Novosti's article announced the awards, translated in English, and state Matejčić's investigative work showcases the very high standards in journalism where she reconstructed a wartime event that has remained distorted for decades. Through her methodological approach, bravery and her depth of fact-checking work clearly separated fact from assumption and returned from the fundamentals of journalism.
As one of the investigative journalists who shone the light on "the chilling circumstances surrounding the only professional photograph to capture the act of execution during the Bosnian War in the former Yugoslavia," the investigation has uncovered a web of complicity, propaganda and journalistic malice. Her past work has also garnered her recognitions such as the European Press Prize in 2021, IJ4EU Impact Award and the Investigative Journalism for Europe Award in 2024.
Established in 2010 by several Bosnian NGOs, the "Srđan Aleksić" journalist award aims to advocate for keeping high standards in journalism in reporting on vulnerable and marginalised groups.
