
BRUSSELS – On 22 January, 2025, 94 European NGOs sent a letter to EU president von der Leyen based on the"Forever Lobbying Project" findings – this investigation by more than 30 media outlets was released last week.
The letter is addressed to Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. The ninety-four NGOs, following up on the investigation revelations and calculations, call onto Mrs. von der Leyen to:
- 1. Defend a comprehensive PFAS ban to cut pollution at source.
- 2. End industry interference.
- 3. Hold polluters accountable.
- 4. Implement a monitoring and remediation plan.
- 5. Support affected citizens.
- 6. Boost the supply of safe alternatives.
- 7. Modernise the EU’s chemicals law.
- 8. Support PFAS regulation at global level.
It was signed by such NGOs as European Environmental Bureau, Corporate Europe Observatory, Chemsec, Chemtrust, PAN, BUND, Deutsche Umwelthilfe, Foodwatch, WWF, OceanNow, SurfRider, Environmental Investigation Agency, Health and Environment Alliance, CEEweb for Biodiversity, and many others.
Forever Lobbying cross-border investigation, carried out by 46 journalists, was supported also via Journalismfund's Environmental investigative journalism grant in the framework of Earth investigations programme, and follows up on the previous large-scale investigation, Forever Pollution.
